Description
Fat transfer, also known as fat grafting or lipofilling, is an advanced cosmetic procedure designed to restore lost volume, enhance contours, and create a more youthful appearance using your own natural fat. This safe and effective technique involves transferring fat from areas with excess—such as the abdomen, thighs, or flanks—to areas needing enhancement, such as the face, breasts, buttocks, or hands.
How the Procedure Works
1️⃣ Fat Harvesting – Fat is gently removed through liposuction from a donor site.
2️⃣ Purification & Processing – The harvested fat is refined to remove impurities and excess fluids.
3️⃣ Precise Injection – The purified fat is strategically injected to enhance and rejuvenate the target area, ensuring smooth, natural-looking results.
Benefits of Fat Transfer
✔ 100% Natural & Safe – Uses your own fat, reducing the risk of allergic reactions or implant-related complications.
✔ Dual Body Contouring – Enhances one area while sculpting another through liposuction.
✔ Long-Lasting Results – A portion of the transferred fat permanently integrates for sustained volume.
✔ Minimally Invasive – No synthetic fillers or implants, with minimal scarring and downtime.
✔ Youthful & Rejuvenated Look – Smooths wrinkles, plumps hollow areas, and enhances natural
Pre-Procedure Instructions
2 Weeks Before:
- Stop taking blood-thinning supplements including fish oil, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, garlic supplements, and St. John’s wort
- Discontinue herbal supplements that may affect bleeding
- Optimize nutrition with adequate protein, vitamin C, and iron intake to support healing
1 Week Before:
- Avoid aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen, naproxen) unless medically necessary
- Do not stop prescribed anticoagulants without consulting your physician
- Stop smoking, as nicotine impairs blood flow and healing
- Begin nutritional supplements if recommended by your provider (supplements containing arginine, glutamine, zinc, vitamin C, vitamin B12 support wound healing)
24–48 Hours Before:
- Avoid alcohol consumption, which increases bleeding and bruising risk
- Stay well-hydrated
- Arrange transportation home and assistance for the first 24–48 hours
Day of Procedure:
- Do not eat or drink for the time specified by your provider
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing
- Remove all jewelry and makeup
- Arrive with clean skin at both donor and recipient sites
Post-Procedure Instructions
First 48 Hours:
- Apply cold compresses to reduce swelling at both donor and recipient sites
- Expect bruising, swelling, and mild discomfort at the liposuction donor site
- Take prescribed pain medication as directed
- Rest with minimal activity
First 1–2 Weeks:
- Avoid compression garments over grafted areas for 4 weeks to prevent fat cell damage
- For breast fat transfer: wear supportive bras that lift but do not compress
- For gluteal fat transfer (Brazilian Butt Lift): avoid sitting directly on the grafted area for 4 weeks; use a BBL pillow when necessary
- Wear compression garments on donor sites as directed
- Begin gentle lymphatic massage as recommended
Weeks 2–6:
- Gradually resume light activities
- Continue to protect grafted areas from pressure
- Expect some volume loss as swelling subsides (final results visible at 3–6 months)
- Attend follow-up appointments to monitor graft survival
Long-Term Care:
- Maintain a stable weight; significant weight fluctuations affect results
- Continue nutritional supplementation for 3 weeks post-procedure if recommended
- Report any signs of infection (increasing redness, warmth, discharge, fever) immediately
