Pre-Procedure Instructions

2 Weeks Before:

• Discontinue blood-thinning supplements (fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, garlic)
• Avoid Retin-A, retinol products, and exfoliating acids in the treatment area

1 Week Before:

• Stop aspirin and NSAIDs unless medically necessary
• Avoid botulinum toxin or filler injections in the treatment area
• Inform your provider of any previous facial surgeries or permanent fillers

24–48 Hours Before:

• Avoid alcohol consumption
• Do not use blood-thinning pain relievers

Day of Procedure:

• Arrive with clean skin, no makeup
• Eat a light meal if local anesthesia is planned

Post-Procedure Instructions

First 24–48 Hours:

• Apply ice packs intermittently (10–15 minutes on, 10–15 minutes off) to reduce swelling
• Sleep on your back with head elevated; avoid sleeping on your side or face
• Take prescribed pain medication or acetaminophen (avoid NSAIDs)

First 1–2 Weeks:

• Expect swelling, bruising, and mild tenderness lasting 7–14 days
• Avoid wide mouth opening, vigorous chewing, or extreme facial expressions
• Do not massage or manipulate the treated area
• Avoid dental procedures
• No strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for 2 weeks

Weeks 2–4:

• Skin dimpling (if present) typically resolves as swelling subsides; gentle massage may be recommended by your provider after 2 weeks
• Avoid high-impact activities and facial treatments
• Gradually resume normal activities

What to Watch For:

• Complications of PDO threads include dimpling, bruising, asymmetry, and thread extrusion
• If you notice thread ends poking through the skin, asymmetry that persists beyond 2 weeks, or signs of infection, contact your provider immediately

Long-Term:

• Results are most visible at 1 month and may last 6–12 months
• Thread dissolves naturally over approximately 6 months while stimulating collagen production[6]
• Touch-up procedures may be performed as needed
