• Remove nail polish and artificial nails

Day of Surgery:

• Wear loose, comfortable, dark-colored clothing
• Do not wear jewelry, makeup, or contact lenses
• Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours

Post-Procedure Instructions

First 24–48 Hours:

• Rest and elevate treated areas when possible
• Expect drainage of tumescent fluid mixed with blood from incision sites; this is normal
• Take prescribed antibiotics and pain medication as directed
• Wear compression garments continuously as instructed

First 1–2 Weeks:

• Continue wearing compression garments 24 hours per day to reduce swelling and help skin retract
• Walk briefly every few hours to promote circulation and prevent blood clots
• Avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, and exercise
• Keep incisions clean and dry; follow wound care instructions

Weeks 2–6:

• Gradually increase activity level
• Continue compression garment wear as directed (typically 4–6 weeks)
• Begin gentle lymphatic massage when cleared by your provider
• Swelling, bruising, and numbness are common and gradually improve

Long-Term Care:

• Final results visible at 3–6 months once swelling fully resolves
• Maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine to preserve results
• Weight gain can cause remaining fat cells to enlarge

Contact Your Provider Immediately If:

• High fever (over 101°F/38.3°C)
• Excessive bleeding or wound separation
• Signs of infection (increasing redness, warmth, pus, foul odor)
• Severe pain not relieved by medication
• Shortness of breath, chest pain, or leg swelling (signs of blood clot)
