Description
Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the eyes by removing excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids. This treatment helps restore a more youthful, refreshed, and alert look while improving vision in cases where sagging skin obstructs sight.
Benefits of Blepharoplasty:
✔ Reduces droopy eyelids for a more youthful and refreshed appearance
✔ Eliminates under-eye bags and puffiness
✔ Removes excess skin and fat for a smoother eyelid contour
✔ Enhances vision if sagging eyelids obstruct sight
✔ Boosts confidence by rejuvenating your facial features

Pre-Procedure Instructions
2 Weeks Before:
- Discontinue retinoids (Retin-A, retinol) and exfoliating acids in the eye area
- Stop blood-thinning supplements (fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba)
- Avoid chemical peels, laser treatments, or microneedling in the treatment area
1 Week Before:
- Stop aspirin and NSAIDs unless medically necessary
- Avoid tanning and excessive sun exposure
- If you have a history of cold sores, notify your provider (antivirals may be prescribed)
24–48 Hours Before:
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine
- Do not wax, thread, or bleach the eye area
- Stay well-hydrated
Day of Procedure:
- Arrive with clean skin, no makeup, creams, or lotions around the eyes
- Remove contact lenses
- Inform your provider of any skin sensitivities or allergies
Post-Procedure Instructions
First 24–48 Hours:
- Small carbon crusts (dots) will form at treatment points—do not pick, scratch, or remove them
- Apply prescribed healing ointment or barrier cream as directed
- Expect swelling, which peaks at 24–72 hours
- Apply cold compresses gently if needed for comfort (avoid pressing on treatment dots)
- Avoid water, makeup, and skincare products on treated area
First 7–10 Days:
- Keep the treated area clean and dry
- Allow crusts to fall off naturally (typically 5–10 days); premature removal can cause scarring
- Avoid sun exposure; when outdoors, wear large sunglasses and a hat
- Do not apply makeup to the treated area until crusts have fully shed
- Avoid swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms, and hot baths
- Sleep on your back with head elevated
Weeks 2–4:
- Once crusts have fallen off, the skin may appear pink or slightly discolored—this is normal
- Begin applying SPF 30+ sunscreen daily to protect healing skin
- Gently moisturize the area with approved products
- Avoid intense sun exposure for 4–8 weeks to prevent hyperpigmentation
Long-Term Care:
- Full results develop over 8–12 weeks as collagen remodeling occurs
- Multiple treatments may be needed (spaced 6–8 weeks apart) for optimal results
- Maintain results with proper skincare, sun protection, and healthy lifestyle
Contact Your Provider If:
- Signs of infection (increasing redness, warmth, pus, fever)
- Excessive swelling that doesn’t improve after 72 hours
- Unusual scarring or skin texture changes
