  1. Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): This is a common cause of deep pigmentation, especially in people with darker skin. PIH can occur after an injury or inflammation to the skin, such as acne, dermatitis, or an insect bite. The inflammation can stimulate melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin (the pigment that gives skin its color), to produce more melanin, leading to darkening of the skin.
